New Bass Project!

While wandering through music stores (yeah, that’s a thing!) in some rare downtime, I stumbled across this Tom Martinson 6-string bass, the Phat model. Tom builds these at an incredibly low price point for a handbuilt instrument, and they’ve all looked stunning in pictures. I’ve been seeing more and more of these over the last year or so online, but was shocked to see one in Cream City Music here in Milwaukee. I played it and, despite some issues, liked the feel, and decided to take it on as a project. I’ve been wanting a 6-String I could feel comfy leaving at school for teaching instead of taking one of my Skjold basses to and from each day. I’ll be chronicling my journey of taking this bass to the next level. Here’s part 1!

Video Rewind- The Big Gamble live @ Club 400 with Alyce Hart!

Let’s rewind to 2017!

Alyce Hart wrote the lyrics to this, The Big Gamble, based on some family turmoil I was having at the time. I had the idea, the music, but couldn’t put the words to it. Ally did an incredible job with these- she has an amazingly deft hand at lyric writing!

Video Rewind- Hallelujah, by Jeff Buckley

Here’s one from a little while back- and arrangement of Jeff Buckley’s (via Leonard Cohen) Hallelujah.

Here’s one from a little while back- and arrangement of Jeff Buckley’s (via Leonard Cohen) Hallelujah. I used to do a lot more living/dining room playing before my son and fiancé came along. The acoustics are pretty nice up there! This happened to be done around Christmas time, though it’s probably not the best Christmas song. Or maybe it is? YOU decide!

I recently received my Kickstarter-backed MOD Dwarf, from MOD devices. This is a walkthrough of the device and early impressions, from a bassists' perspective. I've only had this for a couple of weeks now and am still working through it, but I hope this gives you a solid look at some of what this cool little unit can do.
